N Butyl Acetate Suppliers
N butyl acetate is a clear colourless liquid with a fruity, banana-like odour. It has a medium boiling point and medium volatility. It is freely miscible with all common organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, glycols, aldehyhdes, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, ethers and esters, but it has only limited solubility in water.
It is a highly versatile chemical which possesses good solvent power for cellulose nitrate, polymers, resins and oils. Its solvent powers are similar to iso butyl acetate and methyl isobutyl ketone, and it is suitable for use as a substitute for these chemicals in many formulations.
Synonyms: Butyl acetate, n-Butyl ester of acetic acid, Butyl ethanoate, 1-Acetoxybutane
Applications of N Butyl Acetate Suppliers
N butyl acetate is predominantly used as a solvent in the production of lacquers and paints where it provides excellent levelling and resistance to blushing. It is often used in combination with n-butanol in paints as this further enhances blush resistance and solvency.
N butyl acetate also has major uses in the leather industry and in the manufacture of adhesives and hardened coatings. Its low hygroscopicity, high solvency and resistance to hydrolysis also see it employed as an extraction agent in pharmaceutical preparations and in the chemical industry.
N butyl acetate has several other minor applications; it is an ingredient in cosmetics, perfumes, cleaning products and car care products.
Storage and Handling
N butyl acetate should be stored in a tightly-closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from sources of ignition, nitrates, strong oxidizers, alkalis and acids. Containers which have been opened should be carefully resealed and stored in an upright position to avoid leakage.
Handle in accordance with good industry practices for safety and hygiene. Personal protective equipment including goggles and rubber or PVC gloves should be worn to avoid contact with skin and eyes. Appropriate engineering controls including sufficient natural or exhaust ventilation must be implemented to prevent exposure to vapours. Refer to product SDS for further information.
